I am doing NaBloPoMo this month. 30 blog posts in 30 days. You can read more about it on San’s blog the in between is mine. #nablopomo2022

I had a very full birthday yesterday. We had cake for breakfast as usual and I unpacked some of the presents. I got gigantic mugs so I can make a huge cafe-au-lait on the weekends now. It was a pretty normal day but I got lots of phone calls and texts from family and friends, I felt very special. At work we went out for lunch and I picked Thai food (what is one of my favorites). My family is not so into it and I have the feeling I have it once a year for my birthday with my lab mates. When we got home in the evening there was a beautiful flower arrangement on my door step that my friend sent me. And we had Korean for dinner (another favorite of mine).
The best birthday present by far was the picture my daughter drew for me ( see above). She took a picture on one of our walks and now I know what it was for. She was gifted an aquarell color set and this was her first try. A while back I started a book where the kids can draw, paint or write us something for our birthdays and Christmas. It is slowly filling up. But I think I want another one of that drawing for the wall. Maybe I can convince her to make a family gallery for me? There is a week off from school coming up next week 😉
What was your favorite present you ever received?
Wow- I love that picture! She must have really spent a long time on it, and that’s so touching. I would want that up on my wall as well.
Glad you had such a nice birthday! I like that you had cake for breakfast- is that a German tradition or just your own thing? Sounds like you really enjoyed the day.

No German tradition on that one. Germany is big on cakes but usually in the afternoon. Since we are not around during the day we started to have the cake in the morning for birthdays at some point and it stuck.

That is such a beautiful piece of art – a treasure!
Also, any day that starts with eating birthday cake sounds amazing. Happy Birthday! It sounds like a wonderful day, surrounded by people you love and good food. ❤
My favourite gift. Hmm. I'm not sure? I got a robe from an aunt and uncle when I was a teenager and I still use it daily. But I didn't know when I got it how much a part of my life it would become. It still looks brand new (albeit a bit juvenile; it has little teddy bears all over as the pattern).

The rope sounds very cozy (I still have one, too from my teenage years – no teddy bears, just stripes but I would likely not pick the same colors anymore).

Yes, the day was perfect. I don’t go into my birthday with any expectations anymore but they would have been met yesterday 😉

Wow! That’s a way better drawing than I could do. Kudos to your daughter.
The best present I ever received was a Cabbage Patch doll when I was eight or so. My parents would not buy me one, but my Uncle Kevin (a bachelor who never married or had his own kids) heard about my desire and sent it to me. Very meaningful to me.

I had one of those dolls, too and loved it! Almost forgot about it.

Sounds like a lovely birthday! I’m not a cake person, but could totally get behind birthday pie for breakfast. Ala mode.
My favorite gift would probably be my Smokey Bear that I got when I was a kid. It’s a long story, that I told during NaBloPoMo last year: https://jellyjules.com/?p=8118

I loved your Smokey stories. I don’t think I ever got so attached to a stuffy but my son had a stretch where he did and that bear went everywhere he went.

Happy Birthday! The picture is wonderful. My stepsons always give me homemade cards with their artwork and I love it.

It sounds like a great birthday – and I am glad you got Thai food. (I love Thai food and Jon does too – luckily! If we get Thai food, it’s Thai 90% of the time ;)).
What a beautiful painting that you received from your daughter. She’s very talented!

That’s what I keep telling her, too 😉

She is always very thoughtful and makes handmade gifts for her friends now, too. I love her even more for that (if that is at all possible).

Oh, happy VERY belated birthday! I am a pie person, not a cake person, and my preferred birthday sweet is a peach kuchen that’s been passed down in my family (a custard-based one, not a cakey one). I’ve had that for breakfast many, many years. It has fruit, right??
Your daughter is so talented! What a lovely gift from the heart.

Peach kuchen sounds great! Now I am curious what that looks and tastes like 😉 Birthday goes with cake (or pie) in my opinion.
